Purim Carnival with JFREJ 2014

These pictures, by shule photographer Lauran Epstein, showcase the fabulousness of this year’s sumptuous, topsy-turvy, social justice-themed Purim carnival, which featured exquisite hand-built carnival games and Hebrew, Yiddish, and Ladino Purim music.

Midtown shule students wrote, built, and performed a hilarious sock puppet Purim shpiel, along with leading carnival games like Whack-a-Meanie and Butterfly DREAMers Pinball.

We are endlessly impressed by shule teacher Emma Alabaster, who together with political artist Rachel Shragis masterminded this ground-breaking event, which was created by Jews for Racial and Economic Justice, the Aftselokhes Spectacle Committee and the Workmen's Circle, in collaboration with Kolot Chayeinu, Union Temple, and the Jewish Journey Project.
